Guigoz Lesson 2
C: So what exactly is the Holy Spirit?
M: The Holy Spirit is the Comforter that Jesus promised in John 14:26 that the Father would send in His name. He’s the one that will teach us all things reminding us of all that Jesus said during his time here on the earth.
C: But Mike, you talk about the Holy Spirit as if he were a real person, but I heard a message one time describing the Holy Spirit as a power and a raging wind !
M: People who say such things have either never experienced the Holy Spirit or don’t know him quite simply because the Holy Spirit is God Himself.
C: What??? Are you trying to tell me that we can talk to him and that he can hear us? I think you are going a little bit too far Mike! Unless you can show this to me in the Bible there’s no way that I can believe it.
M: If you believe that the Bible is the word of God then I can prove it to you
C: I would love to hear it!
M: Let’s read the book of Acts so that you can discover for yourself who the Holy Spirit is. First of all, I want to show you that the Holy Spirit can speak: In Acts 13:2 it says “while they were worshipping the Lord and fasting the Holy Spirit said, ‘set apart for me Banabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them’”. You can also read Acts 5:3-4 and you will see that Peter considered the Holy Spirit as God himself for he accuses Ananias of lying to the Hoy Spirit in verses 3-4. He says “you have not lied just to human beings but to God”. You can also read Acts 16:6 where the Holy Spirit keeps the disciples from preaching the Word in Asia simply because he wanted them to go Macedonia instead.
C: Hmmm! Do you mean that the Holy Spirit has feelings too?
M: open your Bible to Ephesians 4:30 and you will see that the apostle Paul warned us about grieving the Holy Spirit simply because if you don’t do what he desires he becomes sad
C: Oh my God! What can we do to be pleasing to him?
M: Follow his direction
C: Do you mean that a Christian is supposed to follow the direction of the Holy Spirit?
M: No Corrine! We are not supposed to we MUST follow him because Romans 8:14 tells us that that those who are lead by the Spirit of God are the children of God. And we must seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
C: What’s the advantage of being filled with the Holy Spirit?
M: When we are filled with the Holy Spirit we exercise our spiritual calling with power and confidence
C: What has to happen for someone to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
M: We have to spend time in prayer. On the Day of Pentecost the disciples were all together in one place with a common purpose of persevering in prayer as we can see in Acts 1:14.
C: So are we filled with the Holy Spirit one time in our lives?
M: Oh no! You can read Acts 4:31 when King Herod and Pontius Pilate united together in the city of Jerusalem with the nations and the people of Israel to stop the Gospel. The apostles prayed and the place where they were meeting was shaken as they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with great boldness. Let me remind you that these are the same apostles who had been filled with the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. So you see that we aren’t filled with the Holy Spirit just one time.
C: You know Mike I gave my life to Jesus but I don’t want to be baptized a second time like the Protestants
M: How old where you the first time you were baptized?
C: I’m not sure but my mom told me that I was around 2 years old.
M: Digest the second can of Guigoz and then we will talk about water baptism in Guigoz lesson # 3.
