La puissance de la supplication (Première partie)
En écrivant aux éphésiens, l’apôtre Paul insiste en leur rappelant de persévérer dans la prière mais j’aimerais qu’on étudie sur le passage d’Ephésiens 6 :18 « Faites en tout temps par l'Esprit toutes sortes de prières et de supplications. Veillez à cela avec une entière persévérance, et priez pour tous les saints ». On voit bien qu’il existe plusieurs sortes de prières et il clarifie en montrant qu’il y’a donc une nette différence entre la prière et la supplication.
Je me suis rendu compte qu’aujourd’hui on ne parle plus de supplication alors que le mot revient très souvent dans les lettres de Paul et surtout dans les psaumes. Si Paul insiste beaucoup sur la supplication, pourquoi on n’en parle plus aujourd’hui ? Par principe, si je vois une pensée qui revient souvent dans la bible, je comprends que j’en ai besoin dans la vie de tous les jours.
Examinons maintenant le passage de la lettre que Paul écrit aux philippiens: « Ne vous inquiétez de rien; mais en toute chose faites connaître vos besoins à Dieu par des prières et des supplications, avec des actions de grâces » (Philippines 4 :6)
Le verset commence en disant qu’on ne devrait pas s’inquiéter ! Cela semble difficile car il y’a toujours des moments inquiétants dans la vie mais s’il arrive qu’on est dans l’inquiétude, le verset que nous venons de lire contient une solution : Faire connaître à Dieu nos besoins. Je sais que certaines prédications disent qu’on ne devrait pas informer Dieu puisqu’Il connait tout mais Paul savait que Dieu est omniscient mais il nous encourage à l’informer de nos problèmes même s’Il est au courant de tout car Dieu aime écouter ses enfants quand ils se confient à Lui. Donc, si tu as un problème, n’hésite pas à aller devant Dieu pour te confier à Lui en décrivant ton problème car Il a la solution du problème avant même qu’il apparaisse.
Donc selon le verset (Phil 4 :6), la solution face à l’inquiétude est de faire connaître nos besoins à Dieu mais comment ? La réponse se trouve dans le même verset : Par des prières et des supplications, avec des actions de grâces. Encore une fois, il parle des prières ET des supplications c-à-d deux choses différentes. Beaucoup de chrétiens prient mais ne connaissent pas la vraie signification de la supplication. Dans le verset, le mot « supplication » vient du mot grec « deesis » qui signifie « pétition ».
Dans la deuxième partie, on verra l’importance de la supplication et comment s’y prendre.

The power of supplication (Part I)
In writing to the Ephesians, the apostle Paul insists by reminding them to persevere in prayer, but let us study on the scripture in Ephesians 6: 18 " Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints". It is clear that there are several kinds of prayers and he is clear in making a difference between prayers and supplications.
I have realized that today we no longer talk about supplication while the word comes up very often in the Paul’s letters and especially in the Psalms. If Paul insists on supplication, why don’t we talk about it today? In fact, if I see a thought that comes often in the bible, I understand that I need it in everyday life.
Let us consider the scripture where Paul wrote to the Philippians: " Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God "(Phil 4: 6)
The verse begins by saying that we should not worry or be anxious! This seems difficult because there are always disturbing moments in life but if it happens that we are in anxiety, the verse we just read contains a solution: Let your requests be made known to God. I know that some say that we should not inform God since He knows everything but Paul knew that God is omniscient but it encourages us to inform God of our problems even though he is aware of everything because God loves to listen to his children when they confide in Him. So if you have a problem, do not hesitate to go before God and open up to him by describing your problem because he solves the problem even before it occurs.
So according to the verse (Phil 4: 6) the solution against anxiety or worry is to make our needs known to God but how? The answer lies in the verse: By prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. Again, he speaks of prayer AND supplication i.e. two different things. Many Christians pray but do not know the true meaning of supplication. In the verse, the word "supplication" comes from the Greek word "deesis" which means "petition".
In the second part, we will see the importance of supplication and how to handle it.
